Le XXIe siècle est celui de l’économie de la connaissance. Nous avons mentionné le fait que la France a atteint la frontière technologique dans de nombreux secteurs de son économie, secteurs pour lesquels la qualité de ses technologies est au meilleur niveau mondial. L’innovation, et surtout l’innovation radicale, permet de franchir cette frontière technologique, permettant de maintenir une longueur d’avance sur nos concurrents étrangers.
L’innovation participe de deux façons différentes à la compétitivité de notre économie. Elle permet de réduire les coûts de production, via notamment les innovations de procédés, qui permettent aux entreprises françaises de rester compétitives vis à vis de concurrents étrangers dont les coûts de production, notamment du facteur travail, seraient plus faibles (il s’agit de la compétitivité-prix). C’est de cette logique que procède notamment le mouvement de substitution du facteur capital au facteur travail que connaissent les pays industrialisés. L’innovation produit permet pour sa part d’ouvrir de nouveaux débouchés aux entreprises françaises, grâce aux avantages compétitifs décisifs qu’elle leur permet d’acquérir. Elle permet ainsi d’obtenir une position de monopole temporaire grâce à la protection de la propriété intellectuelle (il s’agit de la compétitivité hors-prix). La compétitivité de l’économie française passe par ces deux canaux, et l’importance des chercheurs mentionnée précédemment est cruciale pour permettre de passer d’une recherche fondamentale à des débouchés industriels.
Le « modèle social français » peut d’ailleurs grandement bénéficier de notre capacité d’innovation, si ce n’est même en être dépendant pour assurer sa survie. L’innovation dans la biomédecine permettra notamment de réduire les dépenses de santé, en mieux identifiant les symptômes, en favorisant la médecine ambulatoire et en réduisant les coûts de traitement. A terme, l’innovation médicale permettra de mieux vieillir tout en économisant des dépenses de santé à notre régime de sécurité sociale.
A propos des auteurs
Sophie Vermeille est fondatrice et Présidente de Droit et Croissance. Elle est également avocate en corporate et restructuring au sein du cabinet DLA Piper à Paris. Sophie est enfin chercheur au Laboratoire d’économie du droit de Paris 2 Panthéon – Assas, et chargée d’enseignement à HEC. Elle a publié de nombreux articles mettant en évidence les insuffisances du droit français et, en particulier, du droit des faillites. Elle a, ces dernières années, été étroitement associée par les pouvoirs publics aux discussions portant sur la réforme du droit dans ce domaine.
Mathieu Kohmann est membre de l’Institut Droit & Croissance. Il est diplômé de Sciences Po Paris après avoir effectué ses études sur le campus européen, franco-allemand de Sciences Po ainsi qu’à la Princeton University aux Etats-Unis. Actuellement, il est étudiant dans le Master droit économique de l’École de droit de Sciences Po qui lui a permis de faire une partie de ses études de droit à la Stanford Law School. Il retournera aux Etats-Unis dans le cadre d’un Master à la Harvard Law School en août 2016.

Have you ever considered about adding a little bit more than just your articles? I mean, what you say is fundamental and everything. But think of if you added some great graphics or videos to give your posts more, « pop »! Your content is excellent but with images and video clips, this site could definitely be one of the greatest in its field. Superb blog!
